Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×13-inch baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking tray and spread evenly. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Let the cake cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
  7. Once cooled, arrange blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries on top to create a flag pattern. Use whipped cream or frosting to add white stripes, if desired.
