Ingredients

  • 500 g beef (sliced into thin strips)
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup cornflour (cornstarch)
  • Oil for frying
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (for sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (for sauce)
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped (optional)
  • 1 onion, chopped (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Step 1: Marinate the Beef

In a bowl, mix the beef with ginger-garlic paste, soy sauce, and salt. Let it marinate for about 10 minutes.

Step 2: Prepare the Coating

In another bowl, beat the egg and set it aside. In a separate dish, place the cornflour. Dip each marinated beef slice into the egg and then coat it thoroughly with cornflour.

Step 3: Fry the Beef

Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, fry the coated beef pieces until golden brown and crispy. Remove them from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Step 4: Make the Sweet & Sour Sauce

In a small pan, combine sugar, vinegar, ketchup, soy sauce, water, and cornstarch. Cook on medium heat while stirring constantly until the sauce thickens. Add the bell pepper and onion, if using, and cook for another 2-3 minutes.

Step 5: Combine and Serve

Toss the fried beef in the sweet and sour sauce until well coated. Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.
