Early Life and Education

Vineet Bhatia was born on March 4, 1967, in Mumbai, India. He grew up in a family where food was a central part of everyday life. His mother was an excellent cook, and he spent much of his childhood watching her cook and learning about different spices and flavors.

After completing his high school education, Chef Vineet pursued a degree in hotel management from Mumbai’s Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology, and Applied Nutrition. During his studies, he realized his passion for cooking and decided to pursue a career as a chef.

Career Beginnings

Chef Vineet began his career in the culinary industry as a trainee chef at the Oberoi Hotel in Mumbai. Here, he honed his skills and developed his unique cooking style by experimenting with different ingredients and techniques.

In 1993, Chef Vineet moved to London, where he worked as a sous chef at Star of India. He later moved to the Ritz Carlton Hotel in London, where he worked as a chef de partie.

In 1999, Chef Vineet was appointed as the executive chef at Zaika, a fine dining Indian restaurant in London. It was here that he first gained critical acclaim for his innovative cooking style, which blended traditional Indian flavors with modern cooking techniques.

Rise to Fame

In 2001, Chef Vineet left Zaika to open his own restaurant, Rasoi Vineet Bhatia, in London’s Chelsea neighborhood. The restaurant quickly gained a reputation for its innovative cuisine, and in 2004, it was awarded a Michelin star, making Chef Vineet the first Indian chef to achieve this accolade.

Since then, Chef Vineet has continued to innovate and push the boundaries of Indian cuisine. In 2006, he opened a second restaurant, Rasoi by Vineet, at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in London. The restaurant also received a Michelin star in 2010, making Chef Vineet the only Indian chef to have two Michelin-starred restaurants.

Chef Vineet’s culinary achievements have not gone unnoticed, and he has received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 2011, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Southampton for his contribution to the hospitality industry.

Cookbook Author

Chef Vineet is also a prolific cookbook author, having written several cookbooks that showcase his innovative approach to Indian cuisine. His first cookbook, “Rasoi: New Indian Kitchen,” was published in 2004 and won the Gourmand World Cookbook Award for Best Indian Cookbook.

Since then, Chef Vineet has published several other cookbooks, including “Rasoi: Epicurean Delights,” “My Modern Indian Kitchen,” and “Spice at Home.” His cookbooks are renowned for their accessible recipes and stunning photography, which showcase the beauty and complexity of Indian cuisine.

Philanthropy
