Ingredients

  • 500g beef (boneless, cut into cubes)
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 teaspoons red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

Step 1: Sautéing the Beef

Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the beef cubes and sear them until browned on all sides. Remove the beef and set it aside.

Step 2: Cooking the Onion

In the same pot, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown. Add the ginger-garlic paste and cook for another 2 minutes.

Step 3: Adding the Tomatoes and Spices

Add pureed tomatoes, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, and salt to the onions. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the oil separates from the masala.

Step 4: Combining the Beef

Return the browned beef to the pot and stir well to coat with the spice mixture. Add water and bring the mixture to a boil.

Step 5: Simmering the Dish

Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until the beef is tender and cooked through.

Step 6: Adding Yogurt

Stir in the yogurt, and cook for another 5 minutes. Adjust salt and spices if needed.

Step 7: Serving

Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve the Red Beef hot with steamed rice or naan.
