His father owned a small bakery in Vienna, and Chef Helmut spent many hours helping out in the bakery after school. He developed a passion for cooking and baking, and he knew from a young age that he wanted to pursue a career in the culinary arts.

Chef Helmut studied at the Hotel School in Bad Hofgastein, Austria, where he learned the fundamentals of cooking and pastry-making. He worked in several restaurants in Austria during his studies, gaining valuable experience and honing his skills. After completing his studies, he went to work at the Hotel Bristol in Vienna, where he worked his way up from commis chef to sous chef.

Career

After several years at the Hotel Bristol, Chef Helmut moved to Switzerland to work at the famous Hotel de la Paix in Geneva. It was here that he developed his signature style of cooking, which combines traditional Austrian cuisine with modern techniques and ingredients. He worked as the executive chef at the Hotel de la Paix for several years, earning critical acclaim for his innovative dishes.

In 1995, Chef Helmut returned to Austria to open his own restaurant, the Restaurant Österreicher im MAK, in Vienna. The restaurant quickly became a sensation, earning a Michelin star within its first year of operation. Chef Helmut’s unique approach to Austrian cuisine, which combines the best of traditional and modern cooking techniques, has been widely praised, and his restaurant has become one of the most popular fine dining destinations in Vienna.
