#DidYouKnow The Kolkata style biryani is known for its inclusion of the beloved potato. There are numerous elements in history for this inclusion. Some say that it was created in the 1850s by the Nizam’s bawarchis, as a method to reduce the quantity of meat (due to a financial crisis) while still keeping the biryani hearty and filling for its consumers. Others disagree with this and say that since potato wasn’t indigenous to this country (it came to India through Portuguese), it was included to add a sense of exotica and flair to the cuisine. Whatever might be the history, the end result is nothing short of delicious. #KolkataKiBiryani #TheBiryaniJourney
