A raw-mango infused dal for the mango season this year!
KAIRI KI DAL
Ingredients
1 cup Tata Sampann Toor Dal
1 tbsp ghee
1 tsp mustard seeds
1½ tsps cumin seeds
3-4 green chillies, slit
½ tsp asafoetida (hing)
1 inch ginger, chopped
½ cup grated raw mango
½ tsp turmeric powder
¼ tsp red chilli powder
1 tbsp burnt garlic
½ cup fried onion + for garnish
Salt to taste
1 tbsp freshly chopped coriander + for garnish
Steamed rice to serve
Method
1. In a bowl, add Tata Sampann Toor Dal and sufficient water to soak for 3-4 hours. Drain, boil and transfer into another bowl.
2. Heat ghee in a non-stick deep pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, green chillies, asafoetida, ginger, and mix well. Sauté for a minute.
3. Add raw mango and sauté well. Cook for 2-3 minutes. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, burnt garlic, fried onion, and mix well. Cook till oil separates.
4. Add cooked dal and mix well. Add salt, stir well and cook till the mixture comes to a boil.
5. Churn the mixture with a churner, add chopped coriander and mix well. Cook for 2-3 minutes. Take it off the heat.
6. Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with fried onions, chopped coriander and serve hot with steamed rice.
