Ingredients
500 gms. black Pomfret or Rawas or mackerel
4 gms. Fenugreek seeds (methi seeds)
4 gms. Cumin seeds
20 gms. National chilli powder
2 gms. National coriander powder
2 gms. National Turmeric
50 gms. onions, chopped
2 green chillies, whole
2 Garlic (sliced)
20 gms. Tomatoes
100 gms. Tamarind (lime size)
20-25 gms. Curry leaves
National Salt to taste
Clean fish well and wash in two or three rinses of cold water.
Heat oil, add fenugreek, cumin, fennel, chopped onion, sliced garlic and shallots, whole green chillies and curry leaves.
Saute till onions are well cooked.
Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric, chilli powder and coriander powder. Saute for another 5 mins.
Add soaked, pulped and strained tamarind and about 50 ml. water
Simmer till gravy is cooked and fairly thick.
Add marinated fish and salt and cook till done.
