After completing high school, Langbein studied journalism at the University of Canterbury. In 1984, Langbein opened her first restaurant, The Free Range Cook, in Auckland. She continued to run The Free Range Cook for over a decade, during which time she developed many of the recipes that would later feature in her cookbooks.

Cookbooks

Langbein’s first cookbook, The Best of Annabel Langbein: Great Food for Busy Lives, was published in 1997. The book was an instant success and became a bestseller in New Zealand. It featured a collection of easy-to-prepare recipes that were designed to suit busy lifestyles.

Langbein went on to write several more cookbooks, including Savour the Pacific (2000), The Free Range Cook (2003), Annabel Langbein: The Cookbook (2007), and Simple Pleasures (2012). Her books have been translated into multiple languages and have sold millions of copies worldwide.
