Andreas Caminada is a Swiss chef who has been awarded three Michelin stars, 19 Gault Millau points, and is a member of the prestigious association of Relais & Châteaux. He is the head chef and owner of the renowned Schloss Schauenstein restaurant, located in the picturesque Swiss town of Fürstenau. Caminada is also known for his innovative cooking techniques and his passion for using local ingredients.

Early Life and Education

Andreas Caminada was born on September 19, 1977, in the small town of Domat/Ems, in the Canton of Graubünden, Switzerland. Caminada’s family was deeply involved in the hospitality industry, and his parents owned a small hotel in the town. Growing up in a hotel environment, Caminada was exposed to the world of cooking from a young age, and his interest in the culinary arts grew as he spent more time in the hotel kitchen.

Caminada began his culinary education at the age of 16, when he enrolled in the Hotel and Restaurant School in Chur, Switzerland. After graduating from the school, he worked at several notable Swiss restaurants, including the Hotel Adula in Flims, the Hotel Fex in Sils Maria, and the Hotel Castell in Zuoz. Caminada’s passion for cooking continued to grow during his time at these restaurants, and he began to develop his own unique cooking style.

Career

In 2003, Caminada took over the Schloss Schauenstein restaurant in Fürstenau, which had been owned by his family since 1971. The restaurant, located in a 13th-century castle, was already well-known in the region for its excellent food and wine selection. However, Caminada’s innovative cooking techniques and his commitment to using local ingredients soon put the restaurant on the map as one of the best in Switzerland.

Caminada’s cooking style is characterized by its focus on local ingredients and its emphasis on natural flavors. He believes that the best way to create a great dish is to start with high-quality ingredients and to let their natural flavors shine through. Caminada’s dishes are also known for their striking visual appeal, with each dish presented as a work of art.

In 2004, just one year after taking over the Schloss Schauenstein restaurant, Caminada was awarded his first Michelin star. In 2007, he received his second star, and in 2011, he was awarded his third star, making him one of only four chefs in Switzerland to hold this honor. Caminada’s restaurant has also been awarded 19 Gault Millau points, making it one of the highest-rated restaurants in Switzerland.

Caminada’s success has not gone unnoticed in the culinary world, and he has been invited to cook at some of the world’s most prestigious culinary events, including the World Gourmet Summit in Singapore, the Gourmet Festival in Moscow, and the Madrid Fusion culinary conference in Spain.

In addition to running his restaurant, Caminada is also involved in several other culinary projects. He has written several cookbooks, including “Andreas Caminada: The Essence of Cooking,” which was published in 2015.
