After fasting a whole month during Ramadan, we Muslims conclude this Holy month by celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr which is also known as Meethi Eid.
Meethi Eid is basically all about sweet dishes and satisfying our South-Asian sweet tooth. When we say Ramadan is over, we also mean a lot of eating. This includes a lot of sweet as well as savory dishes.
We have listed down some of the common dishes that every common household of Pakistan eats during this festive time.
1. Sheer Khurma
When we speak of Meethi Eid, the first thing that pops into mind is Sheer Khurma. There is no eid without Sheer Khurma. So, it is basically a sweet dish that is made of Saivyan boiled in milk with sugar and topped with a ton load of nuts. This dish is so satisfying that one bowl of it is just never enough.
2. Gulab Jamun
Now, I know Gulab Jamun does not count for a sweet dish but you cannot skip an occasion without these sweet balls dipped in sugary syrup. The sweet balls are made from milk solids known as Khoya. These are so versatile that it can either be eaten hot or cold. I prefer mine hot, what about you?
3. Kheer
Some people are not a big fan of Sheer Khurma. No worries, there’s always an alternative. Kheer also known as Rice Pudding is an alternative for it. Kheer is made with rice boiled in milk with sugar and a hint of cardamom for the appealing smell and flavor.
4. Biryani
A must dish for any occasion, whether it is for a picnic, or just because you feel like having it, biryani is a true Pakistani’s go to dish. Biryani is the first choice that comes to mind whenever you have guests over, or you are going for an outing. So how can you have Eid and not have Biryani?
5. Pulao
For some people who are not much into spices and spicy food, they would prefer Pulao over Biryani. It is also another go to dish and the second choice after Biryani.
6. Nihari
Because it’s Eid, you are up early in the morning and the best breakfast that you can always have is Nihari alongside a Paratha. Yumm!
With so many foods and festive, we wish you all have a hearty and meethi eid!
