Recipe Description

A sophisticated and healthy snack, these rye soldiers are topped with creamy avocado and a sprinkle of fragrant dukkah. Perfect for a light lunch or a pre-dinner appetizer.

Ingredients

For the Rye Soldiers:

  • 1 loaf of rye bread
  • Olive oil, for brushing

For the Avocado & Dukkah Topping:

  • 1 ripe avocado, mashed
  • 2 tablespoons dukkah
  • A squeeze of lemon juice
  • A pinch of salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Cut the rye bread into thick slices.
  3. Brush both sides of the bread slices with olive oil.
  4. Place the bread slices on a baking sheet and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  5. While the bread is baking, prepare the avocado mixture.
  6. In a small bowl, combine the mashed avocado, dukkah, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
  7. Once the bread is cooked and cooled slightly, spread the avocado mixture on each slice.
  8. Serve immediately.
