Step 1
Heat oil in a large pot. Add sliced onions and cook until golden brown. Add garlic, ginger, and chili, stirring until aromatic. Mix in the chopped tomatoes and cook until soft.

Add beef to the pot and cook until browned on all sides.

Mix in yogurt, salt, cumin, and coriander. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes.

Rinse and soak rice for 20 minutes. In a separate pot, boil water and cook rice until 70% done. Drain and set aside.

Layer the partially cooked rice over the beef mixture in the pot.
Step 6
Cover tightly and cook on low heat for 20-25 minutes until fully done.
Step 7
Gently mix before serving.
