Heat oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Brown the beef cubes on all sides, then remove and set aside.

Sauté onions, garlic, and jalapeño (if using) until softened.

Add chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Cook 1–2 minutes to bloom the spices.

Return beef to the pot, add crushed tomatoes and beef broth, stir well, and bring to a boil.

Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1–1.5 hours until beef is tender and chili thickens.
