A refreshing fruit salad recipe that’s a treat for your taste buds as well as your eyes.
WATERMELON FRUIT BASKET
Ingredients
1 medium watermelon
1 medium green apple, cored and chopped
1 medium red apple, cored and chopped
1 muskmelon, peeled, deseeded and chopped
1 papaya, peeled, deseeded and cut into 1 inch cubes
5-6 red grapes + for garnish
3-4 watermelon balls
1 Malta orange for garnish
1 pineapple, halved and scopped
2 kiwis
2 whole yellow bananas to serve
Method
1. To prepare basket, Take a watermelon and cut off a lower edge. Keep it placed on this face down. Make small clits on centre of watermelon. From top, make a cut till the position where slits were done. Cut out the marked part from the watermelon. Repeat same procedure for the other side.
2. The handles for basket are ready. With a scooper, scoop out the red flesh from watermelon to make it hollow and clean.Remove the liquid from watermelon to make it dry. The remaining flesh can also be cleaned with a knife.
3. With a knife, make zigzag cuts or triangles on the rim of both sides of the prepared basket.
4. Hold the watermelon with handle facing towards you, make zigzag cuts or triangles on rim of the handles with a knife on both the sides.
5. Add chopped green apple, chopped red apple, ½ muskmelon chopped, papaya cubes , 5-6 red grapes, 3-4 watermelon scoop balls.
6. Take an orange, cut it into half, again half it and make crescent thin slices.
7. Place orange slices on sides of basket and break one slice in middle and place in centre and add a red grape as garnish.
8. Take a plating tray, place basket on it and fix a hairband of flower over the handle of basket with toothpicks.
9. Take an orange make zigzag cuts in centre with a knife. Separate the top and bottom layers. Add a red grape in centre of orange, fix with a toothpick. Place both layers on the serving plate.
10. In two hollowed halves of a pineapple, add remaining muskmelon, remaining papaya, watermelon scoops, orange slices, slice and add kiwi.
11. Cut remaining kiwi into half, peel the outer skin, cut slices, and place them on basket. Add 2 whole yellow bananas on serving plate.
12. Serve immediately.
13. Garnish-zigzg cut orange layers, hollowed pineapple, red grapes.
