Recipe Description

A classic British dessert, this rhubarb and pear crumble is a comforting and delicious treat. The sweet and tangy fruit filling is perfectly complemented by the crunchy crumble topping.

Ingredients

For the Filling:

  • 500g rhubarb, chopped
  • 2 ripe pears, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 100g granulated sugar
  • Juice of 1 lemon

For the Crumble Topping:

  • 100g unsalted butter, softened
  • 100g plain flour
  • 100g granulated sugar
  • 50g rolled oats

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the rhubarb, pears, sugar, and lemon juice.
  3. Transfer the fruit mixture to a 9-inch pie dish.
  4. To make the crumble topping, rub the butter into the flour, sugar, and oats until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  5. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the fruit.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the crumble is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.
  7. Serve warm with custard, cream, or ice cream.

Tips

  • For a richer flavor, add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the crumble topping.
  • You can substitute other fruits, such as apples or plums, for the rhubarb and pears.
  • To make the crumble topping extra crunchy, add some chopped nuts, such as almonds or pecans.
