Puffed rice tempered with mild spices, peanuts and green peas to make this quick and easy upma at home.

PUFFED RICE UPMA

Ingredients

1½ cups puffed rice (kurmura)
1 tablespoon oil
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 tablespoon split Bengal gram (chana dal)
8-10 curry leaves
1-2 green chillies, chopped
1 tablespoon raw peanuts
1 medium onion, finely chopped
¼ cup green peas
¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
½ teaspoon red chilli powder
Salt to taste

Method

1. Soak puffed rice in sufficient water. Squeeze and set aside.
2. Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add mustard seeds and let the seeds splutter.
3. Add Bengal gram, curry leaves and green chillies, mix and sauté well. Add peanuts and onion, mix and sauté till onion turns translucent.
4. Add green peas and mix. Add turmeric powder and chilli powder, mix well and cook for 1-2 minutes.
5. Add some water and mix. Add puffed rice and mix. Add salt, mix and cook for a minute.
6. Serve hot.
