Mr. Liu was born in Beijing, China, in 1958. He was the youngest of six children in a family that loved food. His father owned a small restaurant, where he would often help out as a child. Growing up, Mr. Liu was fascinated by the flavors and aromas of Chinese cuisine. He would often spend hours in the kitchen, observing his mother and father cook up a storm. His passion for food grew with time, and he knew that he wanted to make a career out of it.

Education and Career

After completing high school, Mr. Liu enrolled in a culinary school in Beijing. He spent three years there, honing his skills in Chinese cuisine. After graduation, he started working as a chef in a local restaurant. He worked hard and soon became a head chef, earning praise for his innovative dishes.

In the early 1980s, Mr. Liu decided to explore new opportunities and moved to Hong Kong. There, he worked in some of the most prestigious Chinese restaurants, learning new techniques and refining his skills. He quickly made a name for himself in the culinary world and was soon offered a job in a restaurant in New York City.

Peking Chef

In 1998, Mr. Liu decided to open his own restaurant in New York City. He wanted to showcase the flavors of Beijing-style cuisine and introduce the people of New York to the authentic taste of Chinese food. And thus, Peking Chef was born.

The restaurant was an instant success, and people flocked to taste the delicious dishes on offer. Mr. Liu’s signature dish, Peking Duck, was particularly popular, and he soon became known as the “Peking Duck King.” The dish was prepared using a traditional method that involved roasting the duck in a wood-fired oven until the skin turned crispy and golden. The duck was then served with thin pancakes, scallions, and hoisin sauce, creating a perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors.

Over the years, Peking Chef has expanded to multiple locations, and its popularity has only grown with time. Mr. Liu continues to innovate and experiment with new flavors, while also staying true to the traditional Beijing-style cuisine that he grew up with.
