A simple and wholesome dish that tastes great with steamed rice and makes for a well balanced meal.

MASOOR DAL

Ingredients

1 cup Tata Sampann Organic Masoor
1 tbsp oil
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 inch ginger, finely chopped
1 large tomato, finely chopped
1 bay leaf
2 green chillies, slit
Salt to taste
½ tsp red chilli powder
¼ tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp coriander powder
¾ tsp garam masala powder
Ghee for drizzling
Fresh coriander sprig for garnish
Steamed rice to serve

Method

1. Wash Tata Sampann Organic Masoor with sufficient water for 2-3 times and transfer into a bowl and soak with sufficient water for 2-3 hours.
2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add cumin seeds and let them change colour.
3. Add ginger and sauté for a minute. Add tomato, bay leaf and green chilliesand mix well.
4. Add salt and mix, cook for 2-3 minutes or till the tomato turns pulpy,
5. Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and garam masala powder and mix well.
6. Add the soaked masoor and mix well. Add 2 cups water, cover and cook till 4-5 whistles are released.
7. Open the lid of the cooker once the pressure has reduced completely, add 1½ cups water and chopped coriander and mix well. Place the cooker back on heat and cook till the mixture comes to a boil.
8. Switch the heat off and transfer into a serving bowl, drizzle ghee on top and garnish with coriander sprig.
9. Serve hot with steamed rice.
