Rice made with a tangy twist, tamarind, peanuts, red and green chillies make it sour and spicy both. This Imli Tilwale Chawal recipe is easy and delicious both.
IMLI TILWALE RICE
Ingredients
3 cups cooked rice
2 tbsps tamarind pulp
2 tbsps oil
½ tsp mustard seeds
½ tsp Bengal gram (chana dal)
½ tsp split skinless black gram (urad dal)
A pinch of asafoetida
8-10 curry leaves
2 dried red chillies
1 green chilli, chopped
Salt to taste
½ tsp turmeric powder
½ cup roasted peanuts, peeled
1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds + for garnish
Sprig of coriander for garnish
Method
1. Heat oil in a non-stick wok, add mustard seeds, chana dal, urad dal, and saute till the colour changes.
2. Add asafoetida, curry leaves, break dried red chillies and add to the wok. Add green chilli and mix well.
3. Add tamarind pulp, 2-3 tbsps water and mix well. Add salt, turmeric powder, roasted peanuts, sesame seeds and mix well.
4. Add rice, mix well. Cover and cook for 2-3 minutes.
5. Garnish with sesame seeds and a sprig of coriander. Serve hot.
