  1. Whoever is responding here on behalf of Jamie Oliver is either totally blind or has some serious front to remain defiant against the comments posted here. This guy may know something about fish – except how to gut them. Please continue as you were defending this video and his poor gutting technique

  2. The most practical way I learned how to do it is to simply cut off the head and tail first (I hope you all agree that these two components will be useless in a meal, especially if you're after a fillet), and then place your knife in the convenient hole of the "throat" (now that the head is gone), and simply slice down its belly. This method allows you to easily open the fish and remove all intestines without the worry of puncturing organs that might spoil the taste of the flesh.
My dad is a fisherman, and he taught me this way. I'm also Norwegian, and fish is like our main trade when it comes to food, so I think it's pretty legit.

  3. I got a question, might be stupid but…
How to do you dispose the guts of the fish after gutting it, i mean i don't think you just dump it in the bin afterwards, cuz it will smell or something, do you just put it in a plstic bag then dispose it or what..

  4. this is how my grandma teach me…

    1. remove the scale by scratching it with the back of the knife in the opposite direction of the scale..
    2. cut open the fish.
2.1. if the fish is pregnant (pregnant isnt the right word, but you know what i mean), dont cut too deep, you dont want to damage the roe sack
    3. rip out the guts.
3.1. carefully remove the roe sack 1st if the fish is pregnant.
    4. rip out the gills
    5. wash the fish with salted water (she never actually explain why salted water..)

i used to gut fish all the time but now days all the fish are gutted in supermarket…

  5. I never keep the head on but if you're going to please remove the gills. The gills are the fish's filtering system so there's going to be all kinds of nasty junk in there. I may not be a chef but I've been hunting and fishing my whole life.

  6. Dont do the initial cut that deep, just cut the belly skin. cutting the intestines and letting its contents out is one of the worse things you can do. you are letting out dangerous bacteria that can contaminate meat.
