The eternally talented Donal Skehan is back on Food Tube with his Irish family recipe – Bacon and cabbage pie cooked with mustard and wrapped in flaky puff pastry. It’s so so good and so so easy too. Wow.

You can use ham in this recipe like Donal or the traditional bacon – the choice is yours!

  1. Made this last night and it was good, however, my roux was runny. I am in the US so tried a chart for conversion. How much cream would I use? I used 2/3 cup cream and 12oz of broth. Is that too much?

  2. yuk. You can try put as many fancy twists on bacon and cabbage as you want. But it is nothing compared to the real traditional.

  3. It would appear that I have the ingredients for this recipe, and I'm in charge of dinner tonight; guess we're having (turkey) bacon and cabbage pie!

  4. Ah ha! Something to do with all the extra ham I end up with during the holiday season! Looks amazing. Can not wait to try it!

  5. Hello! Can we make translation into russian of your videos from your rubric in Youtube and post it on Youtube ? We will give a link to your videos. Thanks in advance! I will wait for your reply!”

  6. Mine came out too runny, and the pastry didn't puff (perhaps the steam from the liquid kept the temp too low?)

We can't get bacon in the States, so I used one of those ham steaks…the ones that are swollen like a tick with water to boost the weight.  I blame that for the runniness, for the mixture looked like Mr. Skehan's going in…

  7. Loved it, simple and delicious. I added  a bit of home made creamy horse radish to the white sauce and I am telling you, you have to give it a try, you'll love it. Cheers

  8. Loved this @Donal Skehan!! What a great way to use cabbage, the ultimate underrated vegetable 😀 And of course one can never go wrong with puff pastry 😉
