Nancy Silverton is a renowned chef, baker, and restaurateur known for her work in the culinary industry. She was born on January 15, 1954, in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in a family of food enthusiasts.

Silverton began her culinary career in the 1970s working at Michael’s, a fine dining restaurant in Santa Monica, California. In the early 1980s, she traveled to Europe to work and learn about bread-making. She returned to the United States and co-founded the influential restaurant Campanile with her then-husband Mark Peel in 1989. Campanile became a popular dining destination, earning Silverton and Peel numerous accolades, including the James Beard Foundation Award for Outstanding Restaurant in 2001.

In addition to Campanile, Silverton founded several other restaurants, including La Brea Bakery, which became one of the most successful artisanal bread companies in the United States. She also opened the acclaimed Pizzeria Mozza and Osteria Mozza restaurants in Los Angeles, which specialize in Italian cuisine.

Silverton has been recognized for her culinary achievements with numerous awards, including the James Beard Foundation Award for Outstanding Chef in 2014, and was inducted into the foundation’s Who’s Who of Food and Beverage in America in 1998. She has also authored several cookbooks, including “Breads from the La Brea Bakery: Recipes for the Connoisseur” and “Mozza at Home: More than 150 Crowd-Pleasing Recipes for Relaxed, Family-Style Entertaining.”

Today, Silverton remains a prominent figure in the culinary world and continues to innovate and inspire with her cooking and baking.
