Early Life and Education:

Manish Mehrotra was born and raised in Patna, Bihar, in Northern India, in 1973. From an early age, he showed an interest in cooking and would often help his mother in the kitchen. However, he did not pursue a career in cooking initially. After completing his schooling, he went on to study economics at St. Xavier’s College in Kolkata, India.

After completing his undergraduate degree, Manish Mehrotra worked in a bank for a brief period before realizing that cooking was his true calling. He decided to pursue a career in culinary arts and enrolled in the Institute of Hotel Management in Kolkata. Manish completed his culinary education and training and graduated with a degree in hotel management in 1995.

Career:

After completing his education, Manish Mehrotra started his career as a trainee chef at the Taj Group of Hotels in Mumbai, India. He worked at the Taj for four years and then moved to London to work at the Ritz Carlton Hotel. Manish spent two years in London, working his way up the ranks, and gaining invaluable experience.

In 2000, Manish Mehrotra returned to India and joined the Old World Hospitality Group as the Executive Chef at their newly opened restaurant, Oriental Octopus, in Delhi. It was here that Manish developed his signature style of cooking, which combines traditional Indian flavors with global ingredients and techniques. Manish’s dishes were a hit with diners, and Oriental Octopus became a popular dining destination in Delhi.

In 2009, Manish Mehrotra left Oriental Octopus to join The Manor restaurant in Delhi as their Executive Chef. The Manor was a fine-dining restaurant that served European cuisine, and Manish’s job was to revamp the menu and bring in his unique style of cooking. He did just that, and The Manor became one of the most sought-after fine-dining restaurants in Delhi.

In 2010, Manish Mehrotra opened Indian Accent, his own restaurant, in Delhi. Indian Accent was an instant success, and it quickly became one of the most popular restaurants in the city. The restaurant’s modern Indian cuisine and innovative dishes were a hit with diners, and Manish’s unique cooking style received critical acclaim.

Indian Accent quickly gained international recognition, and in 2016, Manish opened a branch of Indian Accent in New York City. The New York location was an instant success, and it received a coveted Michelin star within a year of its opening. Manish opened another branch of Indian Accent in London in 2017, which was also well-received by diners and critics alike.
