Step 1
Rinse the rice thoroughly under running water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for about 30 minutes to help it cook evenly and achieve a fluffy texture. In a small bowl, soak the saffron in a few tablespoons of warm water to release its color and aroma.
Step 2
Heat butter in a deep pan over medium heat. Add sliced onion and cook until soft and lightly golden, stirring occasionally to prevent burning. This step builds a rich base flavor for the rice.
Step 3
Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pan. Stir gently to coat the grains with butter and onion. Pour in the measured water, add salt, and bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
Step 4
Reduce heat to low and cover the pan with a tight lid.
Step 5
Cook for 15 to 20 minutes until the rice absorbs the water.
Step 6
Drizzle the saffron mixture evenly over the rice.
Step 7
Cover again and let it steam for 5 minutes before fluffing gently with a fork.
