Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Grease a baking tray evenly with butter to prevent the cake from sticking during baking.

Step 2

Add semolina, sugar, and baking powder into a large mixing bowl. Stir the dry ingredients properly until they are evenly combined.

Step 3

Pour yogurt, melted butter, milk, and vanilla into the bowl. Mix thoroughly until a thick and smooth batter forms without dry lumps.

Step 4

Transfer the batter into the greased baking tray and spread it evenly using a spoon or spatula. Allow the batter to rest for 10 minutes.

Step 5

Cut the batter lightly into square or diamond shapes.

Step 6

Place one almond on top of each piece.

Step 7

Bake for 35 minutes until the top becomes golden brown.

Step 8

Prepare the syrup by adding sugar, water, and lemon into a saucepan. Cook on medium heat for 10 minutes until the syrup becomes slightly thick.

Step 9

Remove the cake from the oven and immediately pour the warm syrup evenly over the hot cake. Let the cake absorb the syrup completely before serving.
