Directions

Step 1

Wash and soak the rice and lentils in separate bowls for 20 minutes.

Step 2

Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat.

Step 3

Add sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.

Step 4

Add ginger, garlic, cumin, cardamom, and turmeric to the onions and stir for 2 minutes.

Add chicken pieces and cook until they change color. Stir in yogurt and salt.

Drain the rice and lentils and add to the pot. Mix well with the chicken and spices.

Step 7

Add water to cover the mixture by 1 inch. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer covered until the rice and lentils are cooked.

Step 8

Sprinkle saffron soaked in warm water, cover, and let it steam for 5 more minutes before serving.
